Balsa is a wellness-focused brand founded in Australia and now based in Surrey. Since 2016, the company has been producing handcrafted, plant-based snacks inspired by a deep understanding of whole foods and human health. Their standout product line includes three delicious flavours of natural sweet balls: Chocolate Brownie, Salted Caramel, and Pistachio Matcha — each designed to provide clean energy and a satisfying taste. To reflect their premium and health-conscious brand identity, Balsa approached Luxury Tube Packaging, a leading butted tubes company, for a bespoke food-grade tube packaging solution.

We developed custom butted tubes to house the Balsa Balls, focusing on both functionality and luxury. As a trusted luxury tube packaging company, we ensured each tube met food safety standards while also delivering exceptional visual impact. The final design included grease-proof lining, black internal caps, and rolled edges for added strength and durability — making these tubes a perfect fit for a growing range of food packaging tubes and other consumables.

Custom Food-Grade Tubes

Balsa’s tubes were produced with food safety as the top priority. Constructed from non-toxic, food-safe cardboard, each unit featured a grease-proof liner to maintain product freshness and eliminate the need for plastic. These custom food-grade tubes were fitted with black caps and a secure butted structure to support repeated opening and closing without wear.

With internal dimensions of 205mm (height) x 43mm (diameter) and external dimensions of 215mm (height) x 47mm (diameter), the tube boxes were perfectly sized to accommodate the Balsa Balls. The 44mm high lids added an extra layer of sealing and protection, ensuring the contents stayed fresh and safe throughout transit and shelf life. Whether used for snacks, supplements, or other health foods, this packaging solution exemplifies the strength and versatility of luxury food packaging tubes.

Printed Spigot & Premium Finishing

One of the standout features of the Balsa project was the printed spigot — a unique touch that enhanced both the branding and design. The full tube was wrapped in high-quality CMYK print, finished in a smooth matt lamination to create a modern, premium aesthetic. We also applied CMYK to the spigot, allowing a pop of colour to show when the lid was removed, thanks to the internally rolled design that exposed an 8mm length of the print.

This combination of bold visuals and meticulous craftsmanship resulted in an eye-catching contrast between the sleek black tube body and the vibrant interior. The spigot’s 52mm diameter allowed for extra structural support while adding depth and dimension to the packaging. These details demonstrate how printed cardboard tubes can be transformed into memorable, high-impact packaging experiences — especially for brands like Balsa looking to stand out in the health food space.
